Maui is a classical featural writing system in which the components of the syllables represent phonological features. A syllable sign begins with the type of the onset (closing, fricative, nasal and others), followed by the place of articulation (palatal, dental, labial), and ends with the final vowels. These graphic elements are put together to form a syllable.
Maui ist ein klassisches Merkmals-Schriftsystem, bei dem die Bestandteile der Silben phonologische Merkmale darstellen. Ein Silbenzeichen beginnt mit dem Anlauttyp (Verschlusslaut, Reibelaut, Nasal und andere), es folgt der Artikulationsort (palatal, dental, labial), und es endet mit den Auslautvokalen. Diese grafischen Elemente werden zusammengesetzt und bilden so eine Silbe.
