Aztec or Nahuatl script is the most recent writing system of the Mesoamerican script family and was used in central Mexico from around 1320 until the European Conquista. Like the other Mesoamerican scripts, it is a figurative logosyllabic script. It is based on the Zapotec script and is closely related to the script of the Toltecs, although other neighboring writing systems, such as that of the Maya, may also have influenced it.
Die aztekische oder Nahuatl-Schrift ist das jüngste Schriftsystem der mesoamerikanischen Schriftfamilie und wurde von etwa 1320 bis zur europäischen Conquista in Zentralmexiko verwendet. Wie die anderen mesoamerikanischen Schriften handelt es sich um eine figurative logosyllabische Schrift. Sie basiert auf der zapotekischen Schrift und ist eng mit der Schrift der Tolteken verwandt, wobei möglicherweise auch andere benachbarte Schriftsysteme, wie das der Maya, ebenfalls Einfluss hatten.
