The Mixtec script is believed to be based on the Zapotec script and the ancient Olmec symbols. It is a predominantly logographic and pictographic writing system used by the Mixtecs, who lived in the region of present-day Oaxaca, Mexico. They used this script from the 9th century until the European conquest in 1591.
